Unspecified impact via uninitialized header-generation read
Published Dec 24, 2025 · Updated Dec 24, 2025
An uninitialized-value read in the Linux btrfs tree-buffer initialization path allows attackers to cause unspecified impact via unspecified vectors. In btrfs_init_new_buffer(), memzero_extent_buffer() clears struct btrfs_header, but btrfs_clean_tree_block() reads its generation before btrfs_set_header_generation() initializes it. The public record establishes only a KMSAN-detected kernel read during tree-block allocation; it identifies neither an attacker-controlled trigger nor a security consequence beyond the uninitialized read.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
