Service interruption via nvmem registration memory leak
Published Dec 24, 2025 · Updated Dec 24, 2025
Memory leak in the Linux kernel nvmem core allows local users to interrupt service by exhausting memory during failed device registration. In nvmem_register(), dev_set_name allocates nvmem->dev.kobj.name, but a later nvmem_validate_keepouts failure frees the nvmem object without releasing that name. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and a failing keepout validation path; no confidentiality or integrity impact is reported.
