Kernel crash via unregistered mailbox cleanup
Published Dec 9, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL-pointer dereference in the Linux Zynq IPI mailbox driver allows local users to crash the kernel during failed device registration. When device_register() fails, zynqmp_ipi_free_mboxes() calls device_unregister() for a child device that was never registered, dereferencing invalid state during cleanup. Reachability requires a ZynqMP mailbox configuration and a device-registration failure; no attacker-controlled method for inducing that failure is published.
