Kernel scheduling disruption via unreleased IRQ spinlock
Published Dec 9, 2025 · Updated May 23, 2026
Denial of service in the Linux kernel UIO driver allows local users to disrupt interrupt handling through repeated disable requests. uio_dmem_genirq_irqcontrol() leaves its spinlock locked when an already-disabled interrupt receives another disable request, then reaches a sleeping operation while atomic. Reachability requires a configured uio_dmem_genirq platform device and write access to its /dev/uioX file; the demonstrated consequence is a kernel scheduling fault and interrupt-handling instability.
