Service interruption via corrupted THP swap metadata

Denial of service in Linux 5.19 through 6.0.6 allows local users to cause a soft lockup through memory-mapping pressure. During transparent huge-page splitting in mm/huge_memory.c, the kernel clears a tail page's page->private field even when it stores a swap-cache swp_entry_t, corrupting metadata used during reclaim. Triggering is variable and requires a local workload that drives mmap, pageout, swap cache, and THP splitting; the observed consequence is a CPU soft lockup that interrupts service.
