CVE-2022-50504

Kernel crash via sleeping in atomic RTAS context

Published Oct 4, 2025 · Updated Oct 4, 2025

Improper scheduling in the Linux kernel powerpc RTAS code allows local users to cause a kernel panic during system panic handling. The rtas_os_term() callback passes an ibm,os-term busy response to rtas_busy_delay(), which can sleep while execution is atomic and interrupts are disabled. Low-privileged local access is required; successful triggering crashes the kernel and interrupts the host.
