System crash via oversized DMA copy box
Published Oct 1, 2025 · Updated Oct 1, 2025
Memory corruption in the Linux kernel allows local users to crash systems via an oversized vmwgfx DMA surface-copy box. The cursor-snooping path in drivers/gpu/drm/vmwgfx/vmwgfx_kms.c passes unchecked copy-box dimensions to memcpy, overflowing the snooped image buffer. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access on a system using vmwgfx; the published description establishes crashes, not code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
