CVE-2022-50439

System crash via premature ASoC IRQ registration

Published Oct 1, 2025 · Updated Oct 1, 2025

A race in the Linux kernel's MediaTek MT8173 ASoC driver allows local users to crash the system during device initialization. The probe registers mt8173_afe_irq_handler before the AFE mappings and private state are ready, so an early IRQ makes regmap_read access unreadable memory. Exposure requires MT8173 audio hardware that asserts an interrupt without first coming straight from reset, and the resulting kernel fault interrupts system startup.
