Local service interruption via unreleased font buffers
Published Sep 18, 2025 · Updated Sep 18, 2025
Memory leak in the Linux fbcon font-setting path allows local users to degrade availability through repeated failed font changes. When vc_resize() fails after fbcon_set_font() allocates a replacement buffer, fbcon_do_set_font() rolls back console state without releasing that allocation. Low-privileged local access to the font-setting interface is required, and repeated failures can consume kernel memory until system services are disrupted.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
