CVE-2022-50403

False positive from signed high-bit shift

Published Sep 18, 2025 · Updated Sep 18, 2025

The Linux kernel ext4 flag check was reported to trigger undefined behavior during initialization, but the CNA later rejected the CVE. ext4_check_flag_values shifts signed integer 1 by 31 bits while validating the high-order inode flag; the change uses an unsigned operand, although kernel compilation semantics already define the signed result. The CNA withdrew the record after determining that the UBSAN warning did not represent a security vulnerability, so no attacker gate or security consequence is established.
