CVE-2022-50401

Kernel memory corruption via callback transport double-release

Published Sep 18, 2025 · Updated Sep 18, 2025

Double-free in the NFSv4.1 callback path in affected Linux kernels allows local users to corrupt kernel memory. The nfsd4_process_cb_update path stores the callback transport reference before rpc_create succeeds, so client cleanup and caller error handling both call svc_xprt_put on the same transport. Reaching the flaw requires local low-privileged access and an NFSv4.1 callback connection whose rpc_create operation fails; observed effects include refcount underflow, use-after-free, list corruption, and a kernel crash.
