CVE-2022-50358

Kernel panic via unchecked firmware flow-ring count

Published Sep 17, 2025 · Updated Sep 17, 2025

Denial of service in the brcmfmac PCIe driver in affected Linux kernels allows physically proximate attackers to panic the kernel. During device initialization, the PCIe ring setup path trusts a firmware-reported max_flowrings value and performs ring writes even when the value exceeds the supported maximum of 256. Reachability requires a Broadcom FullMAC PCIe device whose firmware traps and returns the abnormal count; the consequence is a host kernel crash rather than data access or modification.
