CVE-2022-50333

Kernel memory corruption via unchecked JFS geometry

Published Sep 15, 2025 · Updated Sep 15, 2025

Out-of-bounds memory access in the Linux kernel JFS driver allows local users to corrupt memory via a crafted JFS image. The dbMount path trusts attacker-controlled mapsize and agl2size values from the block-map descriptor, permitting an allocation-group index beyond the db_agfree array and an invalid shift in dbDiscardAG. A victim or automount service must mount the image; subsequent FITRIM or allocation causes kernel heap corruption or a host panic.
