Kernel-memory disclosure and crash via firmware length overflow
Published Sep 15, 2025 · Updated Sep 15, 2025
Integer overflow in the Cavium CPT driver in Linux allows local users to read kernel memory or crash the system through crafted firmware. cpt_ucode_load_fw multiplies the firmware-controlled code_length by two without first bounding it, then uses the wrapped code_size for allocation and copying without checking the firmware-file size. Exploitation requires write access to a fixed-name firmware blob on an affected ThunderX or Octeon-TX host and a subsequent device probe, bind, or boot.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
