Remote kernel panic via uninitialized lock state
Published Sep 15, 2025 · Updated Sep 15, 2025
Denial of service in Linux kernel lockd allows remote attackers to panic re-exporting NFSv3 servers through crafted NLM requests. The nlm_unlock_files path passes a partially initialized file_lock to vfs_lock_file, leaving fl_file NULL until nlmclnt_setlockargs dereferences it. Network reachability to an allowed NFS/NLM export on a server re-exporting NFSv3 is sufficient; the bounded consequence is a kernel panic and service interruption.
