CVE-2022-50290

Rejected memory-leak claim in interface-addition error path

Published Sep 15, 2025 · Updated Sep 15, 2025

The rejected memory-leak claim in the Linux Kernel mac80211 interface-addition path does not identify an exploitable flaw. The claimed leak was based on ieee80211_if_add() not releasing ndev->tstats after register_netdevice() failed, but free_netdev() already invokes ieee80211_if_free() through ndev->priv_destructor. The added explicit free was reverted after it caused a double-free-related kernel fault, and the CVE Numbering Authority withdrew the identifier.
