CVE-2022-50283

Local service interruption via unbalanced device-node reference

Published Sep 15, 2025 · Updated Sep 15, 2025

Use-after-free in Linux kernel MTD dynamic partition handling in 6.0 through 6.0.6 allows local users to interrupt service. drivers/mtd/mtdcore.c assigns a dynamic partition's device-tree node without taking an of_node_get() reference, while cleanup later calls of_node_put(), causing an unbalanced reference count and reuse of a freed node. The failure occurs during boot while registering command-line partitions on an MTD device; public records demonstrate a kernel warning and use-after-free, but not code execution or data access.
