CVE-2022-50278

Service interruption via PNP device-name memory leak

Published Sep 15, 2025 · Updated Sep 15, 2025

A memory leak in PNP device allocation in affected Linux kernels allows local users to interrupt service through resource exhaustion. pnp_alloc_dev() assigns a dynamically allocated device name before pnp_add_id(); if ID addition fails, device cleanup does not release that name allocation. Local low-privilege access is required, but the public record does not identify the precise action that reaches the failure path; the documented consequence is availability loss only.
