CVE-2022-50247

Kernel resource consumption via leaked shared HCD

Published Sep 15, 2025 · Updated Sep 15, 2025

Resource leak in the xhci-mtk USB host driver in Linux allows local users to consume kernel resources when wakeup IRQ setup fails. The wakeup-IRQ error path clears shared_hcd before usb_put_hcd() decreases its reference count, so the shared HCD is never released. Reachability requires low-privileged local access, a MediaTek xHCI controller, and failed wakeup IRQ setup; the terminal availability effect is undisclosed.
