Host crash via unchecked GIF assertion
Published Jun 18, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Denial of service in Linux KVM SVM allows local users controlling a virtual machine monitor to crash the host via a crafted vCPU event. The svm_inject_irq function executes a BUG_ON assertion when KVM_SET_VCPU_EVENTS requests interrupt injection while the global interrupt flag is clear. Access to the KVM vCPU ioctl path is required, and successful exploitation terminates host kernel operation rather than merely stopping the guest.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
