CVE-2022-50217

FUSE page writeback failure via write-close race

Published Jun 18, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026

Race condition in Linux kernel 5.16 through 5.18.17 and 5.19 through 5.19.1 allows local users to prevent FUSE page writeback. A write-versus-close race can dirty pages after fuse_flush calls write_inode_now, while fuse_release fails to write the remaining dirty pages before releasing the last writable file. Exploitation requires local access to a FUSE-mounted file and control of concurrent write and close operations; the documented consequence is incomplete writeback.
