Kernel warning via out-of-range CPU iteration
Published Jun 18, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Improper CPU-mask iteration in the Linux kernel allows local users to trigger a runtime warning by reading /proc/cpuinfo. The MIPS show_cpuinfo path iterates with the compile-time NR_CPUS limit, so cpu_max_bits_warn() receives CPU indices beyond the runtime nr_cpu_ids limit. The path is exposed only when CONFIG_CPUMASK_OFFSTACK and CONFIG_DEBUG_PER_CPU_MAPS are enabled; the documented consequence is a kernel warning and associated log output.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
