CVE-2022-50181

Local system crash via unchecked capset cache entry

Published Jun 18, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026

NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel virtio-gpu driver allows local users to crash the system through a capset request. virtio_gpu_cmd_get_capset can leave cache_ent NULL, but the ioctl path later reads cache_ent->caps_cache without first checking it. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and a reachable virtio-gpu device; the documented consequence is loss of availability.
