Kernel memory corruption via stale freed pointer
Published Jun 18, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Double free in Linux kernel 5.18 through 5.19.1 allows local users to corrupt kernel memory through malformed SOF byte controls. The load_bytes error path frees scontrol->ipc_control_data after a byte-control sanity check fails but leaves the pointer non-NULL, so higher-level rollback frees it again. The path requires local low-privileged access and a failing SOF byte-control load; published evidence establishes memory corruption, not a specific post-corruption primitive.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
