Service interruption via device-node reference leak
Published Jun 18, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Reference leak in Linux kernel rpmsg Qualcomm SMD support from 4.9 through 5.19.1 allows local users to interrupt service. The qcom_smd_parse_edge function retains the device-node reference returned by of_parse_phandle after parsing an edge instead of releasing it with of_node_put. Reachability requires the Qualcomm SMD backend to parse an rpmsg edge; repeated parsing can exhaust kernel resources and interrupt service.
