Metadata exhaustion via fixed maximum extent estimate

Denial of service in Linux kernel Btrfs allows local users to exhaust metadata reservations through writes to a zoned filesystem. The extent-count calculation uses the global BTRFS_MAX_EXTENT_SIZE rather than fs_info->max_extent_size, underestimating split extents and reserving too few metadata bytes. The condition requires a zoned Btrfs filesystem where the maximum zone-append size is smaller than the global extent limit; the published result is metadata exhaustion and a kernel warning.
