System crash via unchecked NTFS3 superblock pointer
Published Jun 18, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel NTFS3 driver 5.15 allows local users to crash the system via a malformed mount option. When ntfs_fill_super() exits before initialization, ntfs_update_mftmirr dereferences the NULL sbi->sb pointer during mount cleanup. Triggering the path requires permission to mount an NTFS filesystem and supplying an invalid mount parameter; the resulting kernel fault interrupts the host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
