Service interruption via leaked VF mailbox DMA buffers
Published Jun 18, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Memory leak in the Linux kernel iavf driver allows local users to exhaust DMA memory through failed VF mailbox setup and interface unload. The ASQ and ARQ allocation helpers leave dma_alloc_coherent buffers allocated when admin-queue register configuration fails. Triggering the flaw requires an iavf virtual function and a configuration failure before interface unload; repeated failures can reduce system availability.
