Kernel crash via unterminated lpfc debugfs input
Published Jun 18, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Out-of-bounds writes in Linux kernel lpfc debugfs handlers allow local users with CAP_SYS_ADMIN to crash the kernel through malformed input. Five handlers in drivers/scsi/lpfc/lpfc_debugfs.c accepted a full 64-byte input into 64-byte local buffers, leaving no terminating NUL byte for subsequent string processing. Exploitation requires CAP_SYS_ADMIN in the initial user namespace and access to writable lpfc debugfs controls; the documented consequence is a kernel crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
