CVE-2022-50022

Local privilege escalation via freed RAID stripe

Published Jun 18, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Use-after-free in Linux kernel RAID5/6 write completion allows local users to corrupt kernel memory through filesystem writes. The raid5_end_write_request callback releases a stripe_head reference and then dereferences sh->batch_head, allowing use after reclamation. A local user needs write access to a RAID5/6-backed filesystem; exploitation can disclose or corrupt kernel memory, hijack control flow, or panic the host.
