CVE-2022-49914

Local denial of service via inode-list leak

Published May 1, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026

Memory leakage in btrfs in affected Linux kernel releases allows local users to exhaust memory during back-reference walking. On an error path in resolve_indirect_refs(), ulist_free() releases the parents ulist nodes but not inode lists attached through each node's aux field. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and a btrfs back-reference walk that reaches the error path; repeated leakage can deny system availability.
