Memory exhaustion via reset work-item leak
Published May 1, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Memory leakage in the Linux ibmvnic driver allows local users to exhaust kernel memory by repeatedly resetting a vulnerable adapter. The reset path removes a successfully processed final reset work item from its list but fails to free the 32-byte rwi allocation. Reachability requires local privileges and an ibmvnic device; repeated resets can progressively consume memory and interrupt service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
