Local privilege escalation via fscrypt keyring use-after-free
Published May 1, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Use-after-free in the Linux fscrypt subsystem allows local users to gain kernel privileges through master-key removal. Keyring garbage collection can defer destruction past unmount, so blk_crypto_evict_key dereferences a freed device-mapper blk_crypto_profile. The use-after-free requires inline encryption through device mapper; a separate semaphore inversion can hang the host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
