Local kernel crash via unallocated CXL region
Published May 1, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the Linux CXL region driver in 6.0 through 6.0.7 allows local users to crash the system via sysfs. In alloc_region_ref(), HPA-order validation iterates registered regions and dereferences each region's params.res before checking whether that address-space resource is NULL. Triggering requires local access to write a CXL decoder target on a system with a region lacking allocated address space; the bounded impact is a kernel crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
