Service interruption via leaked V4L2 device reference
Published May 1, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Resource exhaustion in the Meson VDEC driver in Linux allows local users to interrupt service through driver lifecycle operations. The vdec_probe function registers a V4L2 device but fails to call v4l2_device_unregister when probing fails or the device is removed, leaking its reference. Reachability requires local low-privilege access and the affected Meson video-decoder driver; the reported consequence is limited to availability.
