Service interruption via leaked HDA kobjects
Published May 1, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Memory leak in affected Linux kernel branches starting at 4.1 allows local users to interrupt service through resource exhaustion. The add_widget_node error path omits kobject_put after kobject_add allocates kobject->name and fails, leaking the kobject and its name. Reachability requires local low-privileged access and an HDA widget-registration failure; repeated failures can exhaust kernel memory and crash or hang the system.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
