Kernel crash via uninitialized zoned device info
Published May 1, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in Linux Btrfs allows local users to crash affected kernels by mounting a zoned seed filesystem. The seeding path leaves each zoned device's btrfs_zoned_device_info structure uninitialized and later dereferences it during mount. The trigger requires local privileges sufficient to mount a prepared zoned Btrfs seed; the documented consequence is a kernel crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
