CVE-2022-49830

Service interruption via failed DRM cleanup

Published May 1, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026

Memory leak in Linux kernel 5.8 allows local users to interrupt service by triggering a failed DRM device initialization. When drmm_add_action() fails in drm_dev_init(), the cleanup callback is not registered, so the reference acquired by device_get() is never released. Reachability requires local privileges to initialize a DRM device and an action-registration failure; retained references consume kernel memory without exposing or modifying data.
