Kernel crash via unchecked transport device addition
Published May 1, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in affected Linux kernel branches from 2.6.37 to 6.1-rc4 allows local users to crash the kernel during ATA removal. ata_tlink_add ignores a failed transport_add_device call, leaving cleanup to pass an unregistered device to transport_remove_device. Triggering the crash requires the ATA transport device-add path to fail and the affected module subsequently to be removed; impact is limited to a kernel crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
