CVE-2022-49777

Service interruption via leaked i8042 platform device

Published May 1, 2025 · Updated May 23, 2026

A resource leak in affected Linux kernel i8042 drivers allows local users to interrupt service by triggering module removal. The i8042_probe() and i8042_remove() paths clear i8042_platform_device before i8042_exit() can destroy the platform device, leaking it across module teardown. Reaching the flaw requires local access and the ability to unload the i8042 module; repeated teardown can exhaust resources and disrupt availability.
