CVE-2022-49774

Host kernel crash via invalid eventfd cleanup

Published May 1, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026

Invalid pointer handling in Linux kernel KVM x86/Xen 5.19 before 6.0.10 allows local users to crash the host through a bad eventfd. The kvm_xen_eventfd_assign() error path passes an error pointer returned by eventfd_ctx_fdget() to eventfd_ctx_put() instead of bypassing cleanup. Triggering requires low-privilege local access to an affected x86 host using KVM's Xen event-channel handling, and the reported consequence is limited to host availability.
