Kernel panic via exported freed init symbol
Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Use-after-init in the Hyper-V clocksource code in Linux allows local users to crash the kernel by invoking an exported init symbol. hv_init_clocksource remains exported after its freed .init.text section is reclaimed, so a module can resolve and call a stale kernel address. Reachability requires a loadable module that calls the symbol after kernel initialization; the reported consequence is a kernel panic without data disclosure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
