CVE-2022-49703

Kernel crash via uninitialized ibmvfc backpointer

Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026

NULL pointer dereference in affected Linux kernel versions allows local users to crash the kernel during kexec or kdump on Power9 systems. ibmvfc_init_sub_crqs registers an interrupt before storing the queue-to-vhost backpointer, so a replayed pending interrupt makes ibmvfc_interrupt_scsi dereference an invalid pointer. The crash requires Power9 hardware using the legacy XICS interrupt controller and a pending sub-CRQ interrupt from the prior kernel.
