CVE-2022-49701

Local kernel compromise via ibmvfc event-pool race

Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Use-after-free in the Linux kernel ibmvfc driver allows local users to compromise a guest through concurrent storage I/O. Reset or migration handling frees event-pool objects while command submission or completion still manipulates their list entries. Exploitation requires access to ibmvfc-backed storage during a CRQ reset or live migration; impact remains inside the guest and includes kernel memory access or a crash.
