Service interruption via boot-time node reference leak
Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Resource leakage in the Linux kernel allows local users to interrupt service during Xtensa XTFPGA machine initialization. machine_setup() retains the reference returned by of_find_compatible_node() after processing an Ethernet node instead of releasing it with of_node_put(). Reachability requires an affected kernel built for the Xtensa XTFPGA platform and execution of its architecture-specific boot setup; the retained reference consumes kernel resources.
