Local service interruption via device-tree reference leak
Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Reference-count leakage in affected Linux kernels on ARM Axxia systems allows local users to exhaust kernel memory during CPU startup. The axxia_boot_secondary function calls of_find_compatible_node() but omits the matching of_node_put(), retaining a reference after use. Reachability is limited to ARM Axxia secondary-CPU startup, and accumulated leaked references can deplete memory and interrupt service.
