CVE-2022-4964Public exploit

Microphone recording via missing snap permission mediation

Published Jan 24, 2024 · Updated Jun 20, 2025

Access-control failure in Canonical Ubuntu pipewire-pulse allows local users to record microphone audio from a confined snap. The PipeWire PulseAudio replacement lacks mediation code that checks whether a snap client has the audio-record interface connected before exposing microphone capture. Exposure requires Ubuntu to use pipewire-pulse instead of its default PulseAudio service; a confined snap without audio-record can capture ambient audio.
