Local service interruption via unreleased device-tree references
Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Resource leak in the Linux kernel pmac32-cpufreq driver allows local users to interrupt service through repeated driver initialization. The pmac_cpufreq_init_MacRISC3 function obtains three device-tree node references with of_find_node_by_name but fails to release them with of_node_put. The vulnerable path requires a 32-bit PowerMac MacRISC3 system and local low-privileged access; no data disclosure or modification is reported.
