Availability loss via unreleased SFP allocation
Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Memory leakage in the Linux kernel allows local users to cause availability loss through a failed SFP device probe. The sfp_probe() path allocates an sfp object with sfp_alloc() but returns without releasing it when devm_add_action() cannot register cleanup. Low-privilege local access is required, and the resulting unreclaimed kernel memory can interrupt service without exposing or modifying data.
