Kernel crash via unchecked NULL MMIO pointer
Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the Linux igc network driver allows local users to crash the kernel after a PCIe link flap or bus error. The igc_rd32 accessor sets hw->hw_addr to NULL after an all-ones MMIO read, while later igc_rd32 and wr32 accesses omit an effective IGC_REMOVED check and dereference that pointer. The affected system must use an igc adapter and experience a PCIe detachment condition; the reported consequence is a kernel oops and service interruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
